AAA Academy Employment & Training is pleased to offer a new program in the Lloydminster region entitled Office Administration. The program consists of 18 weeks of instruction, which will be followed by a 2 or 3 week workplace practicum.
OFFICE ADMINISTRATION
Office Administration is a diploma program that is recognized by Alberta Advanced Education and is eligible for financing through the Alberta Student Finance Board.
Graduates are prepared for many clerical-related positions. Career
opportunities include:
• receptionist
• bookkeeper
• office assistant
• administrative clerk
• data entry clerk
Admission Requirements:
55% in English 30 (70% in English 33) or Alberta High School Equivalent Diploma or a non Alberta Equivalent standard
Alberta High School Grade 11 math is required or a non Alberta equivalent
Mature status admission – 20 years old and older and successfully completes interview and admission testing.
Office Administration Diploma Course Description:
| Business Communications |
In this course, students organize and compose acceptable business correspondence in accordance with current business letter writing procedures. Emphasis is placed on sentence structure, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and the editing of written material. |
| Keyboarding |
The student gains mastery of the keyboard learns proper keyboarding techniques, and keys letters, reports, and business forms. Increasing emphasis placed on developing speed and accuracy. |
| Word Processing |
This hands on course is designed to introduce Office Administration students to work processing concepts and the production of routine business communication. Also, this course covers advanced features of word processing and desktop publishing. |
| Spreadsheets |
This course prepares the Office Administration student to use electronic spreadsheets in today’s offices. |
| Databases |
This course is an introduction to database management. Students are introduced to the hands on skills needed to create and use database management software in the business environment. |
| Windows XP & Internet-E-mail |
This hands on course introduces students to the most common features of Windows XP and the Internet. |
| Computer Graphics |
This course prepares the Office Administration student for creating presentations using the PowerPoint program. The students learn how to incorporate fonts, graphics, and colours to create slides, overheads, printed documents, and on screen slide shows. |
| Bookkeeping |
This is an introductory course in accounting with emphasis on basic bookkeeping. The complete accounting cycle is studied including originating entries, posting, financial statement preparation, adjusting entries, and closing entries. |
| Computerized Accounting |
This course integrates an accounting system designed for small businesses. Modules include general ledger, payroll, inventory, and accounts payable and receivable. This course; also, covers inventory, G/L entries, accounts adjustments, invoice adjustments, payments, receipts, payroll, tax remittances, and advanced reporting and a sample report. |
| Effective Speaking |
This course is designed to introduce speech making as an art and technology and to enhance the student’s ability to interact with employers, co-workers, clients, and public. The course includes impromptu speaking, prepared presentations, and other program- specific assignments. |
| Computer Project |
This course gives students the opportunity to fully integrate a Microsoft Office Suite by working through a comprehensive case project. |
| Employment Search Strategies |
This course includes resume writing, cover letters, interview skills, and accessing the hidden job market. |
| Practicum |
Where possible students will be placed in an office setting. |
